A general view of a FedEx Airlines Boeing 767 BA.N cargo plane, that landed at Istanbul Airport on Wednesday without deploying its front landing gear but managed to stay on the runway and avoid casualties, on a runway in Istanbul, Turkey, May 8, 2024. An investigation is underway after a FedEx Airlines Boeing 767 cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing without its front landing gear at Istanbul Airport, after the aircraft's nose gear failed to deploy. The plane managed to stay on the runway, and there were no casualties, according to Turkey's Ministry of Transport. The ministry said that the cargo jet, flying from Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, alerted the Istanbul Airport control tower that its landing gear was not opening and was able to land with guidance from the tower, according to reporting from Reuters. The ministry also said that its teams were carrying out examinations at the scene, while the U.S. National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) announced it will send its own investigators to Istanbul.

Intra-European travel has been doing very well," said aviation analyst James Halstead, adding that limited planes meant ticket prices could stay high. Britain's easyJet (EZJ.L) said earlier this month it wanted to more than double profits and expand its fleet, even though fuel prices could mean higher ticket prices. Spot Northwest European jet fuel prices were at $957 per metric ton on Wednesday, up 5% from before the assault. JET FUELSome airlines have already warned that rising fuel costs will drive up ticket prices or dampen future earnings. He said ticket prices could go up by a mid-single digit percentage ahead of Christmas.

NEW YORK (AP) — Tens of thousands of books are being banned or restricted by U.S. prisons, according to a new report from PEN America. In its report, PEN found parallels between the frequency of prison bans and book bannings in schools and libraries. Texas, another frequent site of library bannings, had more than 10,000 prison book bans, second only to Florida. "Prison book programs have mostly tried to raise awareness locally when prisons implement new censorship restrictions for communities they serve," the report reads. The birth of the modern roundabout came with yield-at-entry regulations, adopted in some towns in Great Britain in the 1950s. This photograph taken on October 3, 2023 shows a product used to eradicate bedbugs at the Hygiene Premium, pest control shop in Paris. France's transport minister on Wednesday urged for calm amid widespread reports of bedbug infestations in the capital and other cities, as he said more could be done to tackle the scourge. "There is no [bedbug] resurgence, we must not fall into madness," he also said, according to French broadcaster BFM TV via a CNBC translation. The French environment ministry says bedbugs have made a resurgence since disappearing in the 1950s due to international travel and increased resistance to pesticides. They cannot jump or fly but spread on clothes and other items such as bags and suitcases.
